Station for Two

(1983)Directed by Eldar Ryazanov142 minDrama, Comedy, Romance

A train stops at a provincial Soviet station, and Platon Ryabinin (Oleg Basilashvili), on his way to visit his father, steps off to find lunch. In the station restaurant he meets Vera (Lyudmila Gurchenko), the waitress, and refuses to pay for his meal, which sets off a run of misfortunes for them both. Eldar Ryazanov plays it as a comedy about two worn-down people who find out, over one bad stretch of days, that they are not as alone as they thought.
