Stefan Zweig: Farewell to Europe
Stefan Zweig (Josef Hader) is the most widely read Jewish writer in the German language, and he spends the years of exile moving from country to country, looking for a place to settle. Maria Schrader follows him through the war with his wife Friderike (Barbara Sukowa) and later Lotte (Aenne Schwarz), as the continent he belonged to breaks apart. The question that follows him is what a writer owes his country when staying silent keeps him safe.
