Steppenwolf
“For madmen only.”
Harry Haller (Max von Sydow) is a solitary intellectual in 1920s Germany who has felt his whole life split between man and beast, and he has decided to die on his fiftieth birthday. Fred Haines adapts Hermann Hesse's novel with the visual effects that were cutting-edge in 1974. Hermine (Dominique Sanda) finds Harry first, then takes him dancing, plays him jazz, and brings him to the whimsical Maria, and a bond forms between the two of them that he has no word for.
