The volunteers are young Canadian university students who sign up for a parapsychological experiment, and they want what the program promises them: a way of reaching each other without speech. David Cronenberg, directing, writing, shooting and editing his first feature, leaves the students mute and puts only a narrator's analysis over them. In the end the film is about two people in a room who can no longer say a word and are forced to find each other another way.
