Still of the Night

“If looks could kill...”

Dr. Sam Rice (Roy Scheider), a New York psychiatrist, wants to keep his patients' secrets even after one of them turns up murdered. He turns away the detective who comes asking questions, then lets in Brooke Reynolds (Meryl Streep), the dead man's mistress and an obvious suspect. Robert Benton has Sam work the case on his own while the police lean on him, and he starts to care more about Brooke than about what he might find out.
