“Secrets run deep.”

Bill Baker (Matt Damon) is an out-of-work oil-rig roughneck from Oklahoma who flies to Marseille to see his daughter Allison (Abigail Breslin), locked up for a murder she says she did not commit. He speaks no French, knows nothing of the legal system, and has Virginie (Camille Cottin) to translate. Tom McCarthy follows him as he stays on, taking a place in a country that is not his own, set on one job he refuses to put down.
