Twenty-five years after graduation, a circle of respectable citizens gather for their school reunion and agree it was the happiest time of their lives. The film goes back to the classrooms to show the truth, with Lektor Blomme (Frits Helmuth) and the other teachers tormenting the boys, among them the young Ellerstrøm (Tomas Villum Jensen). Peter Schrøder, adapting Hans Scherfig's novel, plays the reunion's cheerful toasts against the school's harsh discipline.
