Marsha Mitchell (Ginger Rogers), a fashion model, steps off a night bus in a small Southern town and sees a hooded mob murder a journalist in the street. She came only to visit her sister Lucy (Doris Day), who is married to Hank Rice (Steve Cochran), and the man she glimpsed under a hood is hard to forget.
