“They Set Basin Street to Broadway Ablaze With Sizzling Songs and Hot Rhythm!”

The story begins in the early 1900s, when Bill Williamson (Bill Robinson), an aspiring dancer, starts out on the road to a stage career. It follows him and the popular singer Selina Rogers (Lena Horne) through a run of numbers that look back on the great Black entertainers of the era, with Cab Calloway and Fats Waller performing as themselves. Andrew L. Stone fills the screen with Horne singing the title song and Robinson dancing in a bright, crowded stage show.
