Rachel Bryant (Linda Blair) lives on a country property with her parents and brothers until her cousin Julia (Lee Purcell) shows up, orphaned by a car crash, and the family takes her in. Julia is charming with everyone, and Wes Craven keeps Rachel on the edge of the room, watching the household turn toward her. Rachel starts to believe the newcomer means them harm, and the one person who might hear her out is the cousin who is quietly taking her place.
