Stranger on the Third Floor

Michael Ward (John McGuire) is a newspaper reporter whose testimony helped put Joe Briggs (Elisha Cook Jr.) on trial for murder, and his fiancée Jane (Margaret Tallichet) is proud of him for it. Boris Ingster, in his first film as director, then has Michael doubt what he saw, and the doubt feeds on him. He stops sleeping, starts watching the people around him, and cannot stop asking whether he has sent the wrong man to die.
