“The Suspense Filled Story of 7 Bullets!”

A pickpocket lifts the service pistol from young Detective Murakami (Toshirō Mifune) on a hot, crowded Tokyo bus, and he spends the rest of the summer trying to get it back. He drifts through the city's sweltering streets in disguise, hunting the thief, with the veteran Sato (Takashi Shimura) beside him. Kurosawa follows the trail, and Murakami finds he cannot stop picturing the thief as someone he might have become.
