A Town of Love and Hope

Yuji (Fumio Watanabe) is a teenager from a poor family who sells pigeons to help make ends meet. One day he sells a bird to Kyôko (Yuki Tominaga), a wealthy young woman, and the two lives start to tangle, with his teacher Akiyama (Kakuko Chino) watching over him. Nagisa Ōshima, making his feature debut, films the whole thing in a plain, near-documentary style.
