Strike Up the Band

“The merriest pair on the screen!”

Jimmy Connors (Mickey Rooney) pulls a band of school kids into an orchestra, with Mary Holden (Judy Garland) beside him, and sets his sights on a big contest between schools in Chicago. The trouble is paying to get there, so the kids start scrambling for money. Busby Berkeley, who also directed Rooney and Garland in Babes in Arms, stages their music-making with the same brisk showmanship.
