Struggle in Italy
Paola Taviani (Cristiana Tullio-Altan) thinks of herself as a revolutionary, a young Italian woman committed to the struggle. Jean-Luc Godard and Jean-Pierre Gorin build the film like a lesson, with voiceover and stark staging, to examine how her ideas, her family and her daily habits were shaped by the bourgeois ideology she believes she has left behind. Her convictions, the film argues, came to her from the same class she opposes, passed down like furniture.
