“A seductive fable”

A man in a rumpled dinner jacket drops into the Paris Metro with stolen documents and a pack of hired thugs close behind him. Fred (Christopher Lambert) hides in the back rooms and conduits below the platforms, where he meets Helena (Isabelle Adjani) and a roller-skating pickpocket (Jean-Hugues Anglade). Luc Besson sets them in a world that carries on beneath the city, with its own people, its own rules, and its own way of keeping the surface out.
