Sugar Cane Alley
In Martinique in the early 1930s, a cane-cutting village holds nearly everyone's work and wages, and the overseer can fine a worker for the smallest slip. José (Garry Cadenat), a boy raised by his grandmother M'Man Tine (Darling Légitimus), is told the only way up is school. Euzhan Palcy follows the two of them to the capital, where a partial scholarship asks everything she has.
