Sunday in August

Tram after crowded tram empties Roman families, youth gangs and young couples onto the beach at Ostia on a Sunday in August. Luciano Emmer follows several groups at once, among them Anna Baldini (Marcella Meloni) and Emilio Cigoli's Alberto Mantovani, and lets their paths cross along the shoreline. Each pair of people carries its own small hope into the day, and the film keeps watching to see whether those hopes will meet.
