A woman from the city is spending the summer near a farming village, and she has a plan for The Man (George O'Brien): drown his wife and leave with her. The Wife (Janet Gaynor) stays home, unaware of what is being asked of her husband in the dark. F. W. Murnau follows the two of them out on the water and into the city, where the marriage has to be looked at again, face to face.
