“In a time of revolution, in a family torn by tradition, one man was consumed by love.”
Ignatz (Ralph Fiennes) wants a place in Hungarian society, and in Habsburg Budapest the surest way in is to give up the family name Sonnenschein for the more Hungarian Sors. István Szabó follows his son Adam and grandson Ivan, also Fiennes, across a century from the Austro-Hungarian Empire to the aftermath of 1956. Each generation gives up another piece of who it was in return for belonging to a country that keeps changing what it asks.
