“The version you have never seen.”

Three Kryptonian criminals have been set loose, and Superman (Christopher Reeve) has no idea that his release of them is what's putting Earth in danger. He is busy with Lois Lane (Margot Kidder) and with a choice about giving up his powers to be with her, while Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman) schemes in the background. Richard Donner finished this cut himself in 2006, restoring discarded footage and alternate takes that the 1980 release left out.
