“All hell is about to break loose.”

Nick Vanzant (James Spader) pilots the rescue hospital ship Nova-17 in the 22nd century, and he is the one who answers when a battered salvage ship sends out a distress signal. Kaela Evers (Angela Bassett) and the rest of the crew find a black hole bearing down on both vessels, along with a lone survivor whose body begins to mutate into a monstrous and deadly form. Walter Hill, credited as "Thomas Lee," keeps the ship tight and the clock loud.
