“The story of a man who took the law into his own finger!”

Nobody in the mining town can say who Latigo (James Garner) is, only that two rival companies both believe he's a famous gunfighter and both want him to drive the other one out. He's actually a con artist who stepped off the stage with a bad hand and a good story. Burt Kennedy lets the town take him at his word, and Latigo finds that a reputation will carry a man further than the truth ever did.
