In a near future, most people stay home in a chair and send a younger, flawless robot out to live for them. Tom Greer (Bruce Willis), an FBI agent, has not left his house in years, until a string of destroyed surrogates and the deaths of their owners pull him outside to investigate. Jonathan Mostow keeps the pace quick and the surfaces clean, so the city looks polished and the people look like no one at all.
