Survival Family

“Hard times come again no more.”

One morning the power goes out across Japan, and it does not come back: trains stop, phones go dead, and Tokyo slowly empties. Yoshiyuki Suzuki (Fumiyo Kohinata) packs his wife Mitsue (Eri Fukatsu) and their two grown children onto bicycles for a long ride out of the city, in a film directed by Shinobu Yaguchi. A family that barely spoke over dinner now has to rely on each other for food, water and the next stretch of road.
