Surviving Desire

Jude (Martin Donovan) teaches literature at a college, and he cannot stop thinking about Sophie (Mary B. Ward), one of his students. She is curious about him in return, drawn to the way he talks. Hal Hartley sends the two toward each other in flat, formal speech, and the film stays with Jude and his friend Henry (Matt Malloy), who watch what desire does to a person.
