“The Devil and The Flesh”

Susana (Rosita Quintana) gets out of her locked cell in the middle of the night and makes her way to a plantation, where a family has long kept to a steady routine of work. Don Guadalupe (Fernando Soler) and Dona Carmen (Matilde Palou) take her in, and the household's daily habits begin to loosen around her. Buñuel directs it with a cool, restrained eye, letting the dread build without raising his voice.
