Suzy Bannion (Jessica Harper), an American ballet student, arrives at a prestigious dance academy in Germany to perfect her craft. Within days, a fellow student is brutally murdered, and then another, each death more inexplicable than the last. Argento builds the academy into a maze of red velvet and geometric shadows, where the camera glides through hallways as if possessed, and the murders unfold with the logic of a nightmare rather than a crime.
