Süss, the Jew
Duke Karl Alexander of Württemberg (Heinrich George) needs money, and his treasurer Joseph Süß Oppenheimer (Ferdinand Marian) is the man who supplies it. Veit Harlan made this 1940 Nazi production at the behest of Joseph Goebbels, and it is one of the most antisemitic films ever made, a piece of state propaganda built as costume drama. Dorothea Sturm (Kristina Söderbaum) stands in the Duke's court, among the wealth and the theatrical staging.
