Suzaku

In a remote timber village in Japan, Kozo Tahara (Jun Kunimura) shares a house with his mother Sachiko (Sachiko Izumi), his wife Yasuyo, his nephew Eisuke (Kotaro Shibata) and his young daughter Michiru. The recession has come up the mountain, and the development plans the village counted on to keep it alive have stalled. Naomi Kawase's debut feature stays close to the Tahara household, where Michiru, still a girl, watches the adults around her.
