Michael Burgess (Alan Alda) is a college professor whose scholarly book on the American Revolution has been bought by Hollywood, and when the film crew arrives in town, his quiet life starts to come apart. Actors want their parts rewritten, directors want the battles re-staged, and Faith Healy (Michelle Pfeiffer) has his attention. Alda writes and directs himself as a man being pulled in every direction at once, in a crowded small-town comedy.
