Sweet Sugar

(1972)Directed by Michel Levesque86 min · RAction, Drama
“Bitter Days...Sweet Nights”

Sugar Bowman (Phyllis Davis) is picked up in a drug bust and wants to stay out of a cell, so she takes the other option and signs on to work a sugarcane plantation beside other convicts. Michel Levesque shot this 1972 exploitation picture in grainy, sun-flattened frames, with Mojo (Timothy Brown) and Dolores (Pamela Collins) among those sharing the labor. Sugar made the choice to keep her freedom, and the cane fields are where she finds out what she gave up.
