Sarah Morton (Charlotte Rampling), a British crime novelist, goes to her publisher's summer house in Southern France to find the quiet she needs for her next book. Then Julie (Ludivine Sagnier) turns up, claiming to be the publisher's daughter, and the house stops being quiet. François Ozon keeps Sarah at the center, a reserved woman watching a stranger live as she never has, and the book she came to write begins to take a different shape.
