Amarillo, Texas, is where FBI Special Agent Frank LaCrosse (Dennis Quaid) believes a serial killer is hiding, the same man he thinks took his young son. He has been pulled off the case because it is too personal, and he keeps working it anyway, which worries Sheriff Buck Olmstead (R. Lee Ermey). Jeb Stuart, directing for the first time, keeps the story moving fast, with Frank always pressing a step ahead of the people trying to stop him.
