Sylvia and the Ghost

(1946)Directed by Claude Autant-Lara97 minFantasy, Romance, Comedy

On her sixteenth birthday, Sylvie (Odette Joyeux) is given a surprise by her father: three men hired to play the ghost of Alain de Francigny, the suitor who died in a duel for her grandmother. Sylvie has spent years staring at his portrait, and Claude Autant-Lara fills the castle with the hired performers and the real ghost (Jacques Tati), who wanders the halls unnoticed. It is a story about a girl who would rather love the dead than the living.
