“Sometimes the right love comes at the wrong time.”

Why does a saxophonist keep finding reasons to wander into a Harlem record shop in the 1950s? Sylvie (Tessa Thompson) works the counter at her father's store, and Robert (Nnamdi Asomugha) is a musician who drifts in and starts to linger. Eugene Ashe follows the two of them as their lives pull apart and back together, and Sylvie keeps choosing between the future she planned and the man who keeps showing up.
