Tabu: A Story of the South Seas

The word of the island's chief carries a name: tabu. On Bora Bora, he declares the girl Reri (Anne Chevalier) a sacred maiden, and her love for the young fisherman, called the Boy (Matahi), becomes forbidden. F. W. Murnau made this silent film with a synchronized score and sound effects, and he followed the couple as they flee to a colonised island. Reri and the Boy stay close, a pair of lovers holding on across the water.
