Taipei Story

Chin (Tsai Chin) wants a future and wants it quickly, and she is hunting for it through a Taipei that is being rebuilt around her. She has pinned her hopes on Lung (Hou Hsiao-hsien), her boyfriend since childhood, who still lives in the world of baseball and old loyalties and spends his savings getting her father out of debt. Edward Yang sets two people against each other over one question: whether you keep faith with the past or follow the city forward.
