Taking Chance

“When one falls, another brings him home.”

Lieutenant Colonel Mike Strobl (Kevin Bacon), a Marine desk officer, volunteers for a duty he has never done, escorting the body of Lance Corporal Chance Phelps from Dover to the young man's family in Wyoming. Ross Katz follows him on the trip home, where strangers keep stopping and standing quietly as the casket passes. Strobl begins as a stranger to the dead Marine, and the film shows plainly that someone has to carry each of them home.
