“An Experience You'll never forget !”

A black tailcoat, cut by a tailor who cursed it, passes from one wearer to the next across Manhattan. Among those who put it on are the actor Paul Orman (Charles Boyer), the singer Ethel Halloway (Rita Hayworth) and Charles Smith (Charles Laughton), each in a story that has nothing to do with the others. Julien Duvivier threads the separate tales together with the coat alone, and the film follows wherever it goes.
