“Some things can't be erased.”

Jon (Robert Sean Leonard) has come to Lansing, Michigan, with his first film playing at a local festival, and he wants his old high school friend to be proud of him. Vin (Ethan Hawke), now a volunteer fireman who deals a little on the side, shows up and greets him with backslapping and noise, though a thread of tension runs under the welcome. Richard Linklater shoots the whole thing in real time with a handheld camcorder, and the camera never leaves the room.
