Tartuffe

A young man in 1926 Berlin sits his rich old grandfather down in front of a film, a screen version of Molière's play, hoping it will show him what his scheming housekeeper (Rosa Valetti) is really after. Inside that film, Tartüff (Emil Jannings) works his way into the home of Herr Orgon (Werner Krauss) by playing the pious man. F. W. Murnau stages it all as a lesson, and the old man's inheritance is what hangs on whether he learns it.
