Taxi!

Matt Nolan (James Cagney) is a hot-tempered independent cab driver, and the other drivers who refuse to sell out to a consolidated taxi company follow his lead as the intimidation and violence on the street grow. Roy Del Ruth sets him against the big outfit, with Sue Riley Nolan (Loretta Young) waiting at home while he keeps fighting. The cost is plain: a man can hold onto his independence or his wife, and the film shows him trying to hold both.
