Tea and Sympathy

(1956)Directed by Vincente Minnelli122 minDrama
“Where does a woman's sympathy leave off -- and her indiscretion begin?”

Tom Robinson Lee (John Kerr), a gentle new boy at a New England boarding school, is mocked by the other boys for his soft manner and his taste for music over sports. Vincente Minnelli keeps the camera close on Tom and on Laura Reynolds (Deborah Kerr), the housemaster's wife, who is the one person in the house to show him any kindness. Every cruel remark pushes him a little further toward the edge of the school.
