“It’s time to shine.”

Violet Valenski (Elle Fanning) sings in a local pub on the Isle of Wight, then goes home to a mother who works long hours and a bedroom that feels too small for what she wants. An older man who drinks too much, Vladimir (Zlatko Burić), offers to coach her toward a televised singing competition, and she says yes. Max Minghella lets her walk off the island with a pop dream held tight, her mother watching from the doorway.
