Terraferma

Filippo (Filippo Pucillo) is a young fisherman on a small Sicilian island, working a trade that is slowly dying alongside his grandfather Ernesto (Mimmo Cuticchio). Emanuele Crialese puts his family at the edge of the Mediterranean as a group of immigrants arrives in their waters. The film is about what we owe a stranger who comes out of the sea, set against a family's need to protect its own.
