Tess

(1979)Directed by Roman Polanski172 min · PGDrama, Romance
“She was born into a world where they called it seduction, not rape. What she did would shatter that world forever.”

A drunken old man is told by a stranger that his family descends from the d'Urbervilles, an old noble line. John Durbeyfield (John Collin) sends his daughter Tess (Nastassja Kinski) to the d'Urberville estate to claim the kinship, and she meets Alec (Leigh Lawson), who is happy to receive her. Polanski adapts Hardy's novel, and Tess walks the country lanes in her white dress, her face turned down.
