Testament of Orpheus

An 18th-century poet (Jean Cocteau) goes looking for divine wisdom, and to find it he has to travel through time. His search leads into a wasteland where he meets symbolic phantoms, including Heurtebise (François Périer) and Cégeste (Édouard Dermithe), and talks with them about art and his own career. Cocteau, who plays the poet himself, has more riding on this than an answer, since the poet wants to be reborn as a celestial being.
