It is the summer of 1984 in a Texas town near Wichita Falls, and the centennial is coming. Peter Bogdanovich checks in on Duane Jackson (Jeff Bridges), now $12 million in debt as oil prices drop and the banks fail, while Jacy Farrow (Cybill Shepherd) comes home after thirty years away. The old friends have to work out what is left of them once the football team and the homecoming queen are long gone.
