That Hamilton Woman

(1941)Directed by Alexander Korda125 minDrama, History, Romance
“The year's most exciting team of screen lovers!”

A woman with no money and a dance-hall past becomes the wife of Sir William Hamilton (Alan Mowbray), Britain's ambassador to Naples, and no one in that society can quite say how. Alexander Korda follows Emma (Vivien Leigh) as she meets Admiral Horatio Nelson (Laurence Olivier) while the Napoleonic Wars press in on Europe. Her marriage and her loyalty to him pull in opposite directions, and the film treats that as the price of wanting more than your place allows.
